jennifer: hi ma'am, how often is it ok to use a curling iron on the hair
ColeenKhan: Hi...If your hair is in good condition i.e. not too chemically damaged; then along with a heat-safe product, once a week is ok.
jennifer: is there any way to treat spilt ends or is cutting hair the only option?
ColeenKhan: Jennifer, cutting is the only solution. But to avoid further split ends happening, you have regular spa treatments to strengthen the hair. Also, use the right hair products to avoid damage.
kirin: I have dry curly hair and I have a lot of problems managing my hair while travelling, especially in remote, rural areas of this country. Any suggestions?
ColeenKhan: You have to use the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type and always carry a hair serum which will get rid of the frizziness which usually accompanies curly hair.
jennifer: is it possible to grow waist length hair? what precautions would i need to take and how long will it take?
ColeenKhan: It depends on how long your hair is firstly. Hair usually grows an average of six inches in a year. But your hair needs to be in very good condition to grow waist length hair. Also regular trims are essential even if your growing your hair, so once month in 3 months, you should get a trim.
ekta: hi coleen...i have dry hair with oily scalp and have pre matured greying also and bcz of this i hav to apply henna frequently..i want to go for rebonding..is it safe to do rebonding on coloured hair???
ColeenKhan: Firstly your hair is not 'coloured', it's henna. Swttich to an ammonia- free colour to cover grey. Rebinding is not a problem if your hair is in good condition, but it will definitely add to the dryness.
'mane'iac: Hairfall. Hair thining, curly, dry, frizzy hair --- have tried various shampoos, oils like Hair Therapy, Ayurveda, etc etc etc, but no use!!! advice?
ColeenKhan: Maybe you need clinical advice. You could also improve your diet, an exercise regimen. You can also try some hair spa treatment.
ujwala: Hi i have curly and dry hair, hair fall is a big problem tried changing shampoo and some advices like mustard oil but till date nothing has helped.
ColeenKhan: Hi Ujawala, you can try to improve your diet, ass exercise to your daily routine. Also now all salons have hair fall treatments that you can get.
kirin: my hair's turning reddish... is that because of something I lack in my diet or could it be because of the water?
ColeenKhan: Hi kirin, sometimes if you're out in the sun a lot,it could turn reddish. It could also be your diet or even highly chemailly treated water.
jennifer: what exactly is included in a good hair spa treatment?
ColeenKhan: Hi Jennifer, Hair spa termatent depends on your hair problem. If you have very dry hair, we put in protein and moisture which is what your hair lacks. If you have falling hair, there is something like a pack and a cleansing tonic and massage. If you have lifeless hair, you can add shine.
'mane'iac: Hey, have visited a Dermatologist --- followed her advice. There wasn't much difference. I have a very dry scalp and often it peels off like dry skin. now i've switched to ayurvedic hair oil ... i observe slight improvement provided I used the oil every 2-3 days. In case I have to skip a schedule for whatever reason, my scalp goes back to the same condition.
ColeenKhan: Hi...this sounds like a fungal infection. You do need medication for it. You could seek a second opinion or try homeopathy.
ujwala: when we say diet can you debrief as i consume a protein drink and a glass of milk everyday (as sources of protein)?
ColeenKhan: Hi...you need to add lot of dark green leafy vegetables. Maybe an anti-oxidant supplement like oxidon once a day. Minimum 8 glasses of water and regular exercise.
kirin: how do you choose a good conditioner? I've tried quite a few and they haven't done much good to my hair. Any brands you can recommend?
ColeenKhan: Hi...find out your hair type and use a conditioner suitable for your hair type. Once a week, you can go in for a deep-conditioning treatment. Buy a treatemtn conditioner and after your shampoo comb it through your hair. Dip a towel in hot water and turban your hair with the conditioner in it and rinse off 10 mintues later.
ujwala: What is the best way to select a shampoo that suits my hair?
ColeenKhan: Hi ujwala, you need to find out your hair type. Wash your hair with a shampoo for normal hair. After one day if your scalp is oily, you have oily hair. If it gets oily after 2-3 days, you have normal hair. ANd if it's still dry after 3 - 4 days, you have dry hair. So, choose a shampoo based on that.
jennifer: how often is it safe to wash hair with shampoo? is daily fine?
ColeenKhan: Hi, daily is fine, if you need it, if you have really greasy hair. Otherwise, thrice a week is fine. It's better to have clean hair than avoid washing it.
ujwala: Does our scalp absorb oil? or should we apply it on hair instead of scalp and hair?
ColeenKhan: Hi...it has to be scalp and hair. THe massage is more important to stimulate the scalp.
kevin: hi, can oil be kept on the hair or does it need to be washed off soon?
ColeenKhan: It needs to be washed off within a couple of hours.
jennifer: how important is the use of conditioner? can i use just a shampoo or a shampoo with conditioner? it seems like a chore to add condition as well to the hair care
ColeenKhan: HI, you HAVE to use a conditioner everytime when you wash your hair. You can use a leave-in conditioner.
eisha: how often should I oil my hair?
ColeenKhan: Hi eisha, not more than once a week.
eisha: I'm wary of using hair products such as gels and mousse to style my hair... do they really damage your hair that much?
ColeenKhan: HI, if you use an alchohol-free gel or mousse, and wash it off after you use it, it would be minimal damage to your hair.
ujwala: how often should we use lotions like silk and smooth?
ColeenKhan: Hi, it's ok to use it everytime you wash your hair.
